That's life - December 16-27

Wow this covers alot of time! Been pretty busy!

Checking my calendar, drove to Indiana to get my paperwork, lunch with Karen and Liz and then dinner with Karen at Friday's. Great time. It was hard to not tell her I had learned to knit, but I wanted her scarf to be a surprise.

Got the PEFCU deposit straightened out. My customer service person was great especially when I told her about just learning to knit. She gave me lots of websites, books and suggested I go over to River Knits. I found a skein of yarn for Karen's scarf but opted for a broach instead. The yarn is very tiny, so I may need to another strand to it. I've knitted for a long time on it and only have about a 6" piece.

Drove back to Columbus on Thursday morning. Had Christmas with Amy's family on Saturday. Her folks came on Friday night to attend a Gaither Concert with friends. They dropped Max off at Amy's and I drove him to Karen's that evening. He had another migraine. Poor guy - he asked me to turn off the music in the car that was barely audible. the outdoor lights bothered him also. I got lost 2 Xs - on the way and coming back. At night I'm terrible and that side of town has lots of curvy roads; I haven't a good visualization of the area yet.

It upsets Simon when Max is not feeling well.

Saturday was filled with gifts, food and experiencing "WII". I guess it could be a great exercise experience in the winter. Talked of knitting and things!

Sunday - I'll fill in later.

Monday - ??

Tuesday - I drove up to Canton for Nikki, Ben and Max were coming to Amy's to spend a few days. I was going to stay at a motel, but Dena invited me up and that sounded like a nice quiet time for all of us. No trouble getting there thanks to Google maps.

Watched Cold Mountain --- What a funny movie. Laughed lots! Knitted and talked of books and movies. Dena suggested a couple books by Joan Anderson - first book was A Year by the Sea. I brought three home to read. They remind me slightly of A Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. From what I remember, Anne's writing style was very thought provoking and lyrical. Joan Anderson has retreats on Cape Cod which Dena thought we might attend. I just looked them up and for a 2 day retreat on Cape Cod it would be about $1500. Then there's one on Whidby Island and it is $850 for 2 days. I think I'll have to pass until I sell my first book!

Very irritating, I can't figure out how to paste into these blogs.

That's life - December 15

PEFCU deposit is fixed. Sent to home equity instead of savings. The woman who helped me with the problem is a knitter and she talked my ear off about knitting - gave me websites and invited me to classes or knitting circles.

Knitters are different from crocheters. Interesting.

Talked with Kathy tonight and the family is really having terrible issues. I feel so very bad for her. I'd like to plan a trip to CO in the spring. Since I'm not going to the Mediterranean, might as well go west!

Found a pin to add to Karen's scarf and then began knitting a scarf for me. The yarn is pretty, but it catches on my nails and scratchy fingers.

Way past my bedtime.

That's life - December 15

1:00 am - can't sleep, legs are jumpy. Even watching/listening to the firm doesn't help. Looking up Glenn Ford movies for future watching.

That's life - December 14

Sitting in my Colfax home - everything very quiet except for the gnawing I hear from the kitchen. While I was away a mouse or who knows how many have taken up residence. My first clue was the bag of brown rice - empty - on the floor. Other evidence included little droppings everywhere around it. I really can't do anything tonight, but tomorrow when I am armed with a few traps, we'll see.

Actually found the paperwork I need to get my military ID card renewed.

That's life - December 10

Ok, I'm cheating a bit because today is December 11, but I was too busy sulking yesterday to write anything.

Today was good. I went to my clay class and made 2 coil bowls. I'll add pictures after I glaze them this week.

Tonight made alphabet and number pretzels with the kids. It was fun.

Now to yesterday. I went to Talbot's to buy a jacket then picked up Annalise from school. While there, the zipper on my jacket came apart from the bottom up. I returned to Talbot's and they had a bit of trouble getting me out of it. Turned it back in and drove over to a local (Columbus) Navy installation to get my new ID card which had expired June 30, 2009. I was having trouble getting a hold of my Express Scripts on line, so now I know why.

I called ahead to find out what I needed and they said - two forms of ID. So upon presenting them, the man said "oh, you will need to have a letter from the Navy saying I am eligible". He gave me a couple phone numbers to call. Great - so much for calling in advance. I also checked on a Military ID website and it said the same thing - 2 forms of ID. Didn't mention that if I am a former spouse, that I needed verification.

While on my way home I realized my GPS unit wasn't working, so I switched plugs, unplugged and plugged the unit. Nothing!! I think I'll email Randy Woodson, since he's the one who handed it to me at the Retirement event. So I only get 6 months of use!!

I was feeling so frustrated that I thought about stopping to get iced coffee with real cream and real sugar!! Living on the edge!

I did (in one day) get through to the Navy place in Tennessee and found out that I have to send them a copy of my marriage license and divorce decree and have a notarized statement saying that I have not remarried and that Tri-care is my only medical insurance. Then I will get a letter to take to the ID place and get my new card.

I put all this into perspective though because the wife of one of my high school friends has metastasized breast cancer.

So my day was actually pretty great!

That's life - December 9

This diabetes is discouraging. I look at food and think-I can't eat that or that or that!

Breakfast - 1/2 multigrain English muffin (50 Calories - Carb - )with egg salad and ice tea - no sugar.

Snack 11:00 am - 1 bartlett pear

Lunch - 1 Dannon Coffee yogurt - 160 Cal, 26 gms Carbs, cauliflower florets, pecans 1/8 cup 2 gms carbs

Snack - 1 Caribou coffee, skim milk, sugar free syrup.

Snack before dinner - cauliflower

Tested blood sugar before breakfast and it was 137.

Finally took pictures of all the bears and will post them on Amazon today. Figured I'd make them Free postage within Continental US. That should encourage some offers.

Couldn't get on Express Scripts - my login wouldn't work and then it said they didn't recognize me. Suddenly I thought, I wonder if my military ID was expired and Voila! the answer to the problems. It expired in June. So now the hunt to find a place to get a new one. A quick phone call informed me that with the new rules, I have to prove I am still eligible. Heaven knows what that means. I'm still waiting on a call from a Navy Installation to find out what I need to get my ID card back!

Simon and I went for our haircuts and then my manicure. Liked both cuts, but my polish is still too dark.

Checked on McConnell Heart Health Center and their diabetes classes. I may sign up.

I'm spending too much money on myself, must stop. Bought silver tree pendant from Galleria Evangelia. Gotta help the local economy!

Bought Amy's Christmas present.

I'm sitting in the living room watching Simon and Annalise jump from trampoline to couch to ottoman to chair and back to trampoline. Wild scene! Keeps them busy until dinner time.

Simon is using the couch arm as a pommel horse-going from trampoline to the couch!!

Jeff came home. Smelled bacon cooking!! Annalise and Simon are circling around the house - the chase is on. Steeple chase, marathon- They both need lots of activity.

Evening is about done. Dinner and a movie next.
